In todays world, none of us is immune to violence, regardless of our social or economic status. Hence, we need to equip ourselves to be prepared for any eventuality. Women living in India are even more at risk, evidenced by the frightening statistics on women’s victimization here. A woman in India is raped every 32 minute, murdered every 22 minute, and molested every 15 minutes. In addition, there is a case of domestic violence every 11 minutes.
Despite these numbers, women continue to shy away from learning self-defense skills, viewing it as tomboyish and unladylike, and perceiving themselves as too old to be at threat.
To create more awareness and develop these requisite skills, The Young FICCI Ladies Organization, Kolkata organized a self-defense workshop on 30th August 2009. The session was conducted by International martial arts expert, Master Bhargava (the only Indian Instructor who has trained the United States Marines post 9/11 attacks) to provide women with the arsenal to be aware and prepared for any situation.
