On World Environment Day (WED), 5th of June 2018 FICCI FLO North-East Chapter with the help of Assam Forest Department distributed free saplings at various points in the city of Guwahati thus continuing the GREEN GUWAHATI INITIATIVE and thereby creating awareness of the emerging environmental issue.
The response was overwhelming as the citizens and various social organisations collected saplings for plantation in schools, colleges, institutes, factories, farms, private homes,* etc. FICCI FLO North-East facilitated in the planting of about a 100 tree-saplings at the Assam State Zoo, to provide shade both to animals and visitors.
FLO also provided 60 environment- friendly plant protections, so that the plants can grow safely to maturity. At 11am, FLO NE members with Zoo officials and Assam Forest Department officials did the symbolic Plantation, near the Rhino enclosure.
It was indeed an exciting drive with a record distribution of more than 1,50,200 saplings all over the city. This drive was an immense success under the able flagship of our Chairperson Sarita Sikaria; Joyshree Das Verma past CP who was an intermediate between the Forest department and FLO and leading it from the front; Srutimala Duarah Vice Chairperson, Juhie Vice Chairperson , Past Chairpersons and members.
