Under the aegis of FICCI FLO Handloom & Textile National Initiative, a virtual workshop was organised on Geographical Indications (GI) and Harmonized System (HS) Codes, aimed at empowering committee members working closely with artisans. The workshop was designed to provide participants with a deeper understanding of GI and HS codes, equipping them with the knowledge to leverage these tools for emerging market opportunities.
Mr. Vikrant Rana, Managing Partner at SS Rana & Co., was the speaker for the session. With extensive expertise in intellectual property law and a specialized focus on GI registration, Mr. Rana delivered a comprehensive presentation on the legal frameworks surrounding GI and HS codes. He explained how artisans and businesses could benefit from GI registration, enabling them to protect their unique products and enhance marketability. He also shed light on the Harmonized System of codes, detailing how these can be used for customs classification, market expansion, and export facilitation.
