34th Annual Session :Women Transforming India & FLO ICON Awards

FLO organized its 34 Annual Session on April 5, 2018 at Vigyan Bhawan. Hon’ble President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind was the Chief Guest and delivered the keynote address.

As women play increasingly important roles to take the country forward, FLO is best positioned to play a catalyst’s role in bringing about a positive impact. Towards this objective, the theme for the 34th Annual Session was WOMEN TRANSFORMING INDIA.

Speaking on the occasion, the President said that women constitute half our country. They contribute to our economy at work and at home, in many diverse ways. Yet, when it comes to business and commerce, it is regrettable that women have not been given their due. We need to create conditions for more and more of our daughters and sisters to come into the workforce. We need to push harder to ensure appropriate, encouraging and safe conditions at home, in society and at the work-place to enhance the percentage of working women.

As a part of its activities, FLO brings together Women Achievers who have broken through challenges, beaten the odds and played inspirational role models for women around the globe.

Commemorating the occasion, FLO recognised 9 Indian Women Achievers with FLO ICON AWARDS, those who have touched the peak of their careers/ businesses and are inspirational leaders in their respective fields. Dr. Jyotsna Suri, Past President, FICCI and Shri Rashesh Shah, President-FICCI gave away the Awards.

The awardees were:

1. Dr Aarti Vij, Chief of AIIMS’ Organ Retrieval and Banking Organization (ORBO) for Health & Wellness
2. Ms Ekta Kapoor, Joint Managing Director and Creative Director of Balaji Telefilms for Media Entrepreneurship
3.  Ms Twinkle Khanna, Entrepreneurs, Author, Film Producer, for Conscientious Cinema
4.  Ms Falguni Nayar, Founder & CEO, NYKAA, for Digital Entrepreneurship
5. Dr Tessy Thomas, Director, Advanced Systems Laboratory (ASL), for Science & Technology Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) for Science & Technology
6.  Ms Namita Gokhale, Author and Director of Jaipur Literature Festival, for Promoting Literature
7.  Ms Bharati Chaturvedi, Founder of CHINTAN, Environmentalist and writer for Environmental Protection
8.  Dr Seema Rao, Commando Trainer, certified Doctor and MBA in crisis management for Commando Training
9.  Ms Kamal Kumbhar, Social entrepreneur & Founder of Ekta Producer Company for Grassroots Mobilization

FLO is also taking a lead in making the formal sectors of the economy realize the need for creating equal opportunities for women. First of its kind in India, Gender Parity Index is being created to measures the extent of gender parity in the formal sector. FLO GENDER PARITY INDEX AWARD was given to Synchrony, which has been Ranked #1 on the Index. Mr. Sunil Bijlani, Sr. Vice President – Human Resources – Asia and Mr. Faisal Khan, Sr. Vice President – International Operations and Business Leader of Synchrony collected the award.

Ms Pinky Reddy took up the mantle as the 35th President of FLO for the year 2018-19, from Vasvi Bharat Ram.
