Visit to the Comprehensive Cleft Lip and Palette Care Centre

Flo NE Members visited the Comprehensive Cleft Lip and Palette Care Centre on the 8th May 2014 , to witness a live surgery. It was an eye-opening and enlightening experience in which the dedication and sincerity of Medical, paramedical and non medical staff in this life transforming surgery deserves our kudos and full support.

Mr Mahesh Deori, Director of the Centre explained that four things are needed to make a successful programme of this nature:
Infrastructure
Trained Medical and Para Medical Personnel to deliver this…. and….counsellors, nutritionists, dentists, ENT .
Funds.
Patients, who have to be recruited from remote areas, where ASHA workers from NHRM play an important role in reaching out to the grassroots level to create awareness and break down societal barriers before bringing patients to Operation Smile .
This Centre, called GC4, delivers the highest number of surgeries , about 240 every month, and far ahead of the second one in Shanghai which does about a 100 every month. It has a 100% safety record….more than 11,500 surgeries have been done under general anaesthesia. without a single mortality. ..though more than 20,000/- need to be done.
