FLO organized a very interesting visit to Haldiram Snacks Pvt Ltd. on February 3, 2014. With a legacy of true entrepreneurial spirit running into 4 generations now, Haldirams is the oldest and most popular FMCG Company in India.
The visit to the Haldirams factory at NOIDA was conceptualized with the objective of giving a firsthand understanding and behind the scenes experience of the manufacturing unit of a company which has become a household name today.
The visit started with a Presentation on the history of Haldiram’s, which began as a small town enterprise in India and has grown to a global phenomenon. Haldiram’s was established during the British rule in 1937 in the royal city of Bikaner in Rajasthan, India. The owners, the Aggrawal family started the business with a sweet shop. In 1941, it was branded as Haldiram Bhujiawala.
In 1990, Haldiram’s expanded their business empire and a manufacturing unit was set up in Mumbai. In 1995, a restaurant was launched in Delhi. In the early 1990, the company split into three independent units. In 1997, its unit for Namkeens was established. In 1999, the group started operating as separate entities and they started fighting for their individual market share as well. In the year 2000, Haldiram’s marked its entry into international market.
USA was the first market that the Haldiram’s started exporting to, which had a wider target audience for Indian fares. But the most interesting fact that was highlighted was that the biggest export market for Haldirams in Japan.
The members were divided into groups and guided tours to the manufacturing and packaging units were organized. It was fascinating to witness the seamless progression of activities undertaken with lot of hard work, dedication and commitment, to achieve the level of accomplishment which Haldiram’s has reached today.
