On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti , FLO curated a visual presentation of sustainable heritage textiles of India.
The presentation by FLO was titled, “Virasat”. The program is a dedication to Mahatma Gandhi on his birth anniversary. Mahatma Gandhi achieved many great things in his lifetime, famously freeing India from British rule through peaceful protests and inspirational movements that united the nation.
To people across the globe, Mahatma Gandhi is an icon of peace, inclusivity and sustainability, thanks to his revolutionary attitude that led India and its people to freedom and independence. To this day, Gandhi’s wisdom and perspective still resonates with those of us who choose to hear and act on the lessons he taught.
One of Gandhi’s most amazing achievements that resonates deeply with us at FICCI FLO is his Khadi movement. It is a movement that continues to live on in Indian culture and will forever connect fashion with freedom in its truest form.
The show showcased the Khadi story, its relevance through the 75 years of India’s freedom,‘Celebrating Indian indigenous Indian textiles of India’. Promoting responsibly sourced natural and sustainable fabrics for a better world was the sentiment behind the show.
FLO National President, Ujjwala Singhania said, “FLO is truly privileged to present this show , which is also a tribute to the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi.
For the Mahatma, khadi was the means to the economic liberation of the masses. He saw the employment opportunities created by the khadi movement as the solution. Our idea is not just to the inculcate a feeling of pride in our heritage and textiles but also to help this industry reach global markets through collaboration and innovation. With 152 years of Khadi and 75 year of Indian independence, it is perhaps the most opportune time to celebrate the nation and its heritage today.”
Today, India not only takes pride but can offer the handmade fabrics to the world as environment friendly and sustainable fabric. The show communicated this throughout the various segments. Additionally, khadi has been used as the fabric by eminent designers to create local dresses.
The event was led by Ludhania Chapter, Monika Choudhary, Governing Body Member, Radika Gupta, Ludhiania chapter chair and Ludhania team
