Thumbprint Conversation on Meena kumari

A morning event we were all looking forward to, the members and the literati crowd met up at Terra Maya.

The guest of Honour for the day was Dr. Noorul Hasan from North Eastern Hill University, Shillong, his daughter Daisy Hasan a Ph D from Swansea university, UK, drove down to Guwahati to attend the occasion and release the book written by her father, Dr. N. Hasan. Mr.Ashutosh Agnihotri from the IAS cadre and Arman Ali enthralled the audience with their excellent job of moderating the whole show.

It was a unique event discussing Meena kumari, the poet and life beyond cinema.It was reading,reciting,debating and critical explanation of the years then and now, holding Meena kumari as the model role, her grief which gave expression to her beautiful Urdu poems and acting as well.Daisy Hasan took all care to put forward the legendary Meena Kumari, who’s Urdu poems so well translated into English by her father, into meaningful worded explanation, its deep penetrating thoughts and wonderful poetic lines.”Meena kumari, the poet, a life beyond cinema” .’Dr. Noorul Hasan gently unveils a hauntingly desolate,beautiful mind and achieves in translation, sensitive, sensual poems like Meena Kumari herself ‘ as Gulzar has said very aptly.

The session went rolling because Ashutosh Agnihotri set it forth and all participated with great enthusiasm, ending happily by singing a few lines of “ajeeb dastan hai yeh, kahan shuru kahan khatam”

The screening of the movie “sahib bibi aur gulam” added to the mood of the whole show.
