SWAYAM : Seaweed Cultivation

Seaweed cultivation is an alternate source of income generation for fisher folk in Tamilnadu. Seaweed or algae is cultivated during the breeding season of fishes so that continuous income is generated. 20 women from Kovalam village have been trained on the techniques of seaweed cultivation. The cultivated seaweed is being sold to the Centre for Ocean Research – Sathyabama University for further research and use of seaweed as organic fertilizer.
