FLO Kolkata completed a collection drive named Sustainable September – October drive, conducted in the lead-up to Diwali. This initiative aims to promote sustainability and waste reduction.
The event saw overwhelming participation from members and resulted in significant contributions across all three areas of focus.
Key Highlights:
● Old Clothes, Toys, etc.: 2 big truckloads of old clothes, toys, and other items were collected and sent to the NGO, “Goonj”. These items will be repurposed or recycled, ensuring that waste is minimised and resources are used efficiently.
● E-Waste: More than 240 kilograms of e-waste was collected and disposed of through the partnership with “Hulladek”. The items, including old chargers, wires, CDs, and obsolete electronics, will be processed via eco-friendly recycling methods, contributing to the reduction of harmful e-waste pollution.
● Preloved Clothes: Members donated a wide variety of gently used clothes, which will now be redistributed through the partnership with “Dil Se”.
This year’s “#SustainableSeptember-October” initiative has not only helped our members declutter their homes but also reinforced the values of reducing, Reusing, Recycling, and Repurposing. It is only through awareness and impactful actions, ensuring that the waste is redirected from landfills and channelled into sustainable recycling centres.
Special thanks to all participants, and valued partners Dil Se, Goonj, and Hulladek, for their support in making this initiative a success.
