The National Center for Assistive Health Technologies (NCAHT) and TTK Center for Rehabilitation Research and Device Development (R2D2) at IIT Madras, in collaboration with RRD, successfully launched Thiramai – Sports 4 All, 2024 on November 22, 2024, at the Student Activity Center (SAC), IIT Madras. This inclusive sports initiative aims to foster inclusivity and empowerment through adaptive sports. Joint Secretary Ms. Sandhya Rajan represented the FLO Chennai during the inauguration ceremony.
Thiramai – Sports 4 All commenced with two 3-day sports camps designed to introduce and train individuals with mobility impairments in adaptive sports. Approximately 100 participants with amateur or beginner experience engaged with professional coaches, enhancing their skills in sports such as wheelchair basketball, badminton, tennis, cricket, racing, table tennis, and throwing events.
The grand finale will feature a carnival of sports, broadening participation to include individuals with cognitive, hearing, and visual disabilities. Additionally, a fun zone for children and caregivers ensures an inclusive and engaging experience for all attendees.
