FICCI- FLO organised a panel discussion on “Sharing experiences by Women in the Arts” with renowned artists as panel members, Padmashree Anjolie Ela Menon, Arpna Kaur & Mithu Sen. This was the 2nd programme in the series of talks on sharing experiences with women, proficient in different fields. The first of the series was sharing experiences with women in power.
The discussion centred on ‘Art as a business opportunity’ and the eminent panelists shared their views as well as experiences on the same. Kavitha Varadaraj, FLO President welcomed the artists and said that growing interest in arts and crafts has opened up a plethora of business opportunities.
She also added that traditionally women had been associated with folk art forms like Batik, Bandhni, Warli art and Gond paintings. In the field of Fine Arts, women had been very few and it is only after 1960s, that women started appearing in large numbers. Today, almost half the students in most Indian art schools are women. Besides women are also entering the art field from various other streams. Majority of curators, writers, and gallery owners in India are today women
FLO provided an excellent platform for the art lovers to learn from the experience of the stalwarts from this field. The artists displayed their work in an audio visual presentation and also shared their journey as an artist. It was an excellent opportunity for the members to enrich themselves with the experiences and be inspired by their achievements and challenges.
