FLO Hyderabad, in its commitment to equip members with essential skills for navigating the digital and financial landscapes effectively, hosted a virtual session titled “How Safe is your Data: Data Privacy in 2024” on May 1, 2024. Collaborating with Knowledge Partner Tatva Legal, the session aimed to raise awareness about safeguarding individual privacy amidst the growing collection and usage of personal data by third-party organizations.
Ifrazunissa Khan, Corporate Lawyer & Manager at Tatva Legal, led the session, highlighting the rise in cybersecurity incidents in India and the implications of the Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023 for data principals and fiduciaries. The session also featured real-life case studies and concluded with guidance on raising awareness, aligning business policies, and responding to cybersecurity incidents. Sri Jayesh Ranjan, IAS – Special Chief Secretary for ITE&C and I&C Depts., Govt of Telangana, delivered the keynote address, emphasizing the need for data protection and outlining lawful recourse for individuals in case of data misuse.
The session created awareness about best practices for sharing, safeguarding, and vigilance with individual data, raising awareness about the need to safeguard online actions, transactions, and social media footprints. Members were apprised of the ways data is collected and used with or without their express consent, as well as the legal courses of action available to them in case of fraudulent incidents. Information was also provided on the steps taken by the Central Government and Telangana State Government under new laws to protect individuals against cybercrime and data misuse by large corporations.
This session marks the initial step in FLO-Govt. of Telangana’s collaboration to raise awareness about Digital Data Privacy. Tatva Legal has come on board as a knowledge partner for legal and policy awareness, with plans for more such sessions in the future on various topics. The virtual program was attended by nearly 50 members, underscoring the importance of such initiatives in today’s digital age.
