FLO organised an interactive session with Mr Deep Kalra, CEO-Make My Trip on ‘Reboot & Revive: Turnaround Times for Travel and Tourism’ on October 21, 2021. In conversation with Mr Kalra was Smriti Puri, National Joint Treasurer FLO.
With the pandemic, the face of travel and tourism is witnessing a massive change. The sector was the hardest hit in last few months, but we can see the green shoots of recovery in the last few months with the intensity of COVID 19 gradually decreasing.
Mr Deep Kalra is a veteran in the tourism industry with an intense experience in witnessing and surviving global crises such as the dot-com bust, the 9/11 attacks, and the global financial crisis of 2007-08 and now the pandemic.
Mr Kalra talked about MMT’s pandemic strategy and the future of India’s Travel Industry, leanings and experiences of rapid innovation and evolution and much more. “80 percent domestic travel is back. International travel is back at 10 percent. We have to live with this for now.”, said Mr Kalra. He also informed that his team worked on building the Arogya Setu App pro bono. “With 50 million downloads in 11 days, Aroya Setu was the fastest growing app globally.”, he added.
“ We cannot panic as leaders in the worst of situations. As leaders , it is our duty to emanate positivity and be there for the people.”, he shared his mantra.
FLO President, Ujjwala Singhania in her welcome address said, “With COVID 19 upon us, travel and tourism sector has been most widely impacted. · But the good part is that this sector will always bound to bounce back because traveling will happen, in whatever shape or form. · Slowly but steadily, the industry will build back.”
