They shared their experiences in the luxury world, which is growing by leaps and bound and highlighted on the niche market significantly perked up with an edge in designs and customizations suiting the Indian market.
The panelists discussed and deliberated on how India stands in the world of luxuries. All the eminent speakers agreed that luxury is pride for those who have it and cause of prejudice for those who do not have access to it.
Ms. Raseel Gujral Ansal, Lifestyle Designer, Casa Paradox, said that when it comes to luxury brands and acquiring luxuries, India has done well in the space of hospitality, lifestyle, designs and films. But segments such as automobile have tremendous potential and India must explore it. She added that acquiring a luxury always depends on a perception and not a rationale.
Mr. Aman Nath, Co-Chairman, Neemrana Hotels, remarked that luxury is a state of mind and is about being impulsive. Luxury is a religion, and in India only a section of privileged people have access to it. He added that Indian women must take pride in the fact that they have one-off jewelries, which are unique and no other person would have it because it is a part of India’s heritage.
Mr. Jamal Shaikh, Editorial Director, Robb Report, said that often in India luxury is mistaken to be a commodity for show off. When a person rationally decides to acquire a luxury, the result is short-lived contentment and long term disappointment.
Ms. Sujata Assomull, Fashion Columnist and Brand Strategist, moderated the session. The session was also addressed by Ms. Garima Jain, Chairperson, YFLO and Ms. Pooja Jain, Senior Vice Chairperson, YFLO.
