Under the leadership of Chairperson Aarmeen Mogul Dordi, FLO Mumbai celebrated World Saree Day by signing an MoU with ISKCON Govardhan Eco Village to create a Saree Bank and collected over 100 sarees for distribution to unprivileged women.
Chairperson Aarmeen Mogul Dordi welcomed guests and emphasized the cultural significance of sarees. A special tribute was given to the chapter’s Past Chairpersons, recognizing their invaluable contributions to FLO Mumbai’s growth and success. Past Chairpersons were honored with a certificate of honor and a beautiful SUTA saree, symbolizing appreciation for their dedication and leadership. Notably, all Past Chairpersons wore traditional weave sarees, aligning with the event’s theme.
SASMIRA students showcased SUTA sarees, highlighting the collaboration between education and industry partners. The event featured a panel discussion on “A Saree Affair: Sustainability and Style Weaved in Beautiful Threads” moderated by Ms. Aarmeen Mogul Dordi, Chairperson of FLO Mumbai, Ms. Sanjukta Barik, Founder, La Aartemisia, Ms. Vikita Shah, Dean, SASMIRA, and Ms. Sujata Biswas, Director, SUTA.
Key topics discussed were the significance of sarees in Indian culture and heritage and the sustainable practices in saree production and consumption Innovative designs and styles in sarees. The panelists further discussed the role of sarees in empowering women and promoting cultural exchange.
