2nd September was a day with a difference for YFLO Kolkata members. Reason? The Dabbawalas from Mumbai were in town for an event with our members at the Park.
Mr. Subodh B. Sangle, who is currently working with Mumbai Tiffin Box Suppliers Association, as the Speaker & Co-ordinator, was the main speaker while to have an authentic taste of their business we had amongst us a Dabbawala clad in white cotton kurta-pyjama and donning a topi.
Building on basics is an idea very quintessentially Indian, and the Dabbawalas espouse that idea with élan.
It was an enlightening experience to know how a simple logistic of transferring lunch boxes from home to office has emerged into a unique trade.
The discipline, commitment and rigour of the dabbawalas, appear to outgrow and outshine the sophisticated, and technology driven operations of the corporate world.
Being born and brought up in Mumbai, it was a proud moment to share with the members, something that is essentially Mumbai, traditionally Indian and recognised worldwide.
More than 150 FLO and YFLO members attended the event.
