On a pleasant February morning 35 ladies of FLO Ahmedabad headed to Vadodara on their way to the most enchanting Uttarayan Art Foundation, a place like non-other.
This oasis of creativity and tranquility, a 40-minute drive from Vadodara, was the perfect setting for the first networking meet between the FLO Ahmedabad and FLO Vadodara chapters, one of its kind initiatives by the respective Chairpersons – Dr. Rachna Gemawat & Reshma Patel.
The next 2 hours were a most comprehensive tour of the lush green 40 acres of landscaped premises by the man of the hour – Mr. Rakesh Aggarwal, the brain and heart behind this project, and his partner the renowned artist P.D. Dhumal.
The space is divided into manicured gardens and cottages. The gardens have sculptures by national and international sculptors like Anish Kapoor, Somnath Bendre, Ratilal Khatir, Alberto Giacometti, Auguste Rodin, and Barbara Hepworth placed strategically for maximum immersion. Few of the cottages house the artists who come here for their residency and the others are dedicated to the storage and display of paintings and art. The FLO ladies got to experience the work of renowned artists like M.F. Hussian, Akbar Padamsee, Manu Parekh, Jatin Das, Amrita Shergill, and many more.
High on the art, the entourage was served a buffet of an amazing array of cuisines ranging from continental, Thai, street food, sweetmeats, and desserts. Unmatched hospitality by Mrs. Uma Aggarwal.
Satiated by all senses we bid adieu to the gracious hosts as well as the Vadodara FLO ladies and made our way back to Apnu Amdavad.
