Too often it is assumed that creativity and innovation are the domain of the “creative types.” But innovation, design, and creativity is there in each and every one. With this backdrop, FLO organised an interactive session with Mr Shekhar Kapur, world renowned Director, Producer and Actor on “We are the stories We tell ourselves” on 16 January 2015 at Hotel Taj Mahal, New Delhi.
The session focused on the deeper concepts of life where Mr Kapur highlighted the need to drop one’s ego to enjoy the greatest moments of life.
In her Welcome Remarks, Ms Neeta Boochra, President FLO expressed her delight and pleasure to have the Golden Globe winning director Mr Shekhar Kapur amidst the gathering and hoped to have an interesting session from the perspective of a filmmaker on powerful ways to unleash inner creativity and potential to innovate continuously.
Talking about ‘What is a Story’, Mr Kapur said “We are nothing but stories, if we are not stories, we are not real”. He further added “There is enough scientific proof that says that neurons get used to the stories that you tell yourself. You have to change it, to change your life story”.
Talking about the Joys of Life, Mr Kapur said “The greatest moments in your life are those when you drop your individuality and not those when your ego get supercharged.” Mr Kapur went on to say “It’s not your ego boosters but your ego destroyers that make you happy”.
The key takeaway from the session was to identify right messages and stories that we tell ourselves as it allows us to tap into our creative potential in our work lives, and in our personal lives, and help us to innovate in terms of how we approach and solve problems.
The session was moderated and hosted by Ms Ruchika Gupta, GB Member FLO who through her gentle moderation style facilitated deeper exchange of reflections and discussions with Mr Kapur and effortlessly engaged everyone in the deliberations.
