FICCI Ladies Organization (FLO), Jaipur Chapter organized an interactive session on ‘Renewable Energy, Women Empowerment and Entrepreneurship’ with Baroness Sandip Verma. Barona Verma is the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Energy & Climate Change, United Kingdom. It is about time that there is an energy efficiency debate in India. In the United Kingdom the energy efficiency plays a huge role. While the increase in generation capacity is important; it is equally important to effectively use the available energy. This was stated by Baroness Sandip Verma.
She also called upon the collective empowerment of women in the lead for renewable energy. Verma complimented the Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Smt. Vasundhara Raje for the visionary solar policy and the new solar projects for which the State Government has signed for recently.
In the introductory remarks, the Chandigarh based British Deputy High Commissioner, Mr. David Lelliott OBE said that all the talent and innovation should be brought to the table for the fillip to the renewable energy sector. Talking on energy efficiency, he even questioned the meeting being held in an air-conditioned hall with so many lights on the ceiling. The meeting could have easily be held in the sunlight in this balmy weather.
The Chairperson of the FLO Jaipur Chapter, Ms. Apra Kuchhal said in her welcome address that the wind energy potential in the state is estimated to be about 5400 MW. A total of 2875 MW wind power capacity has been installed by August 2014. Rajashan shines bright on solar map of India with 300-330 clear sunny rays comparable to deserts of California, Colorado and Arizona.
