YFLO Hyderabad event ‘India’s Potential as a Sporting Nation’ on the 5th August 2015 was an inspiring and motivational event for the members and their kids.
ABOUT THE SPEAKER :
The speaker panel for the event comprised of 4 young sporting legends Jwala Gutta, Ashwini Ponnappa, Sunil Chhetri & Mithali Raj. The talk was moderated by veteran cricketer Mr.Vijay Mohan Raj. The event was an instant hit with the young and old audience alike. All four of them inspite of their eminent standing in their chosen sport both in national and international circuits were very grounded and approachable & most importantly inspirational.

The discussion covered various aspects – parents support , kids motivation, support from government, sports as a career, nutrition, training and sponsorship.
Mithali Raj the first woman to break ground in a totally man’s bastion of cricket has this to say. Describing her journey as an unconventional story of being pushed in to the sport rather than having chosen it, she said that she persevered & excelled in it breaking many records. She says the best thing to happen to woman’s cricket is coming under the umbrella of the BCCI.
Jwala Gutta & Ashwini Ponnappa the badminton aces agreed that dedication & discipline were the hallmarks of their training. Speaking about their partnership they said that they owe their success to the similarity in their individual goals and ambitions.
Sunil Chhetri one of the few soccer players won acclaim internationally too said that there is no magic or winning formula but sheer hard work.
Sunil Chetri don’t keep complaining about government, federation, opportunities. Stop giving reasons why things are not working. Become unreasonable, be self motivated and focused to bring excellence in what you do. Success follows excellence.
Emphasising the role of parental guidance, the speakers agreed that they owe it all to their parents for their success and glory. It’s because of their support, encouragement and sacrifices that they have reached where they are.
They also emphasized for India to arrive on the world map as a sporting nation. They said that india’s grooming and development in sports has to start at the grass roots level. Encouraging kids to take up any sport, make it part of their school curriculum, advising them on nutrition, providing them adequate training, Financing and support from the government is the need of the hour.
After the discussion they fielded some questions from the enthusiastic members and everyone was left feeling inspired by their success stories.
The event ended with members and their kids enjoying a wonderful spread of snack and tea.
