Hidesign is the flagship company of Dilip Kapur who rose from making a few bags for friends and family to be a highly respected manufacturer of fashion leather accessories. He has changed the way women looked at bags, at a time when they used to be brought back by family travelling abroad or fake designer bags from the South East Asian countries flooded the market.
The Hidesign manufacturing unit is situated in a wooded area with buildings made of red brick which have been fired on the site. It has been conceptualized by Ray Meeker, the renowned ceramist, architect and designer so as to both be functional and compliment the surrounding greenery. Dipen, the brand Manager for the group, took us around the unit which employs 90% women workers from in and around the local area. He left no stone unturned and explained to us in detail the complete manufacturing process. No material is wasted and even the small waste leather bits are made into the ‘Hidesign’ logo. They work towards an eco friendly environment and even the packing of the finished product is done in cotton carry bags.
