YFLO Kolkata’s The Philanthropy Club hosted a captivating event, “Harbouring Hope: High Tea,” aboard the historic Bengal Paddle on August 13th, 2024. This exclusive high tea experience took place on the last surviving paddle steamer in India, which was originally built in Scotland in 1945 and has been exquisitely restored by The Barge Company.
Guests embarked on a journey along the Hugli River, enjoying the ambiance of this vintage vessel. The event began with a visit to India’s only river-focused museum, where attendees explored a rich collection of river memorabilia and historical artefacts, offering insights into the region’s maritime heritage.
Following the museum visit, the guests were treated to a delectable high tea curated by Glenburn Penthouse, featuring an array of gourmet delights that complemented the afternoon’s luxurious setting. The experience was further enhanced by a Shola art workshop conducted by “The Localist”.
The afternoon was accompanied by live jazz tunes, creating an atmosphere that resonated with the event’s philanthropic spirit. The event culminated in a heartwarming pledge from attendees, who committed to donating towards the well-being of these skilled artisans.
