To commemorate 106th International Women’s Day, FLO organised a panel discussion on “Position of Strength – Conquering new World” on March 8, 2016. This programme was organised in collaboration with Twitter India.

The panelists were – Natasha Badhwar, Writer, Film Maker and Fashion Entrepreneur ; Monica Jasuja, Head of MasterPass and eCommerce, India and South Asia at MasterCard and Mahima Kaul, Head- Public Policy, Twitter India. Shweta Rajpal Kohli, Economic Affairs Editor, NDTV India was the moderator for the session.

The panel discussion highlighted that he digital world is a huge enabler and has the potential to remove barriers, biases, overcome mobility restrictions, security, and time limitations.

The FLO objective is to economically empower women and E-commerce can directly connect women to the market, particularly under privileged women and in Non-Urban centres, which will significantly empower women. FLO is working in this direction through the WE in eCommerce Initiative, with the objective to facilitate the process of women empowerment by providing them a digital platform to promote their businesses.

In her welcome address, FLO President Archana Garodia Gupta said “In India women still need to be a greater part of the economy. Digital platforms provide a voice to women and also an easily accessible and flexible way to do business. FLO is glad to announce an MOU with Snapdeal to get women entrepreneurs and artisans online across the country.”

The panel discussion was an apt platform to understand the potential in the Ecommerce, as this session brings together a panel of empowered women from the relevant industry, who will share their experiences.

Monica Jasuja, Head of MasterPass and eCommerce, India said, “Empowering women digitally is inevitable to take on the world, find and protect their voice. They should be aware that they are operating from #position of strength with technology solutions and law protecting all the time and everywhere.”

Natasha Badhwar, Writer, Film Maker and Fashion Entrepreneur said, “Social media has been a great platform for women who use it to express themselves, share and support others without being restricted by their immediate physical boundaries.”

Mahima Kaul, Head- Public Policy, Twitter India said, “We are proud to introduce #PositionofStrength to the FICCI FLO network, the important conversation about empowering women and amplifying their voices on a global platform like Twitter.”

Twitter’s #PositionOfStrength, a women’s empowerment initiative launched recently across India to help female Internet users bridge the gender equality gap online, using online platforms to expand their reach.
