FLO organized an Environment Conclave: Revival, Regeneration & Conservation of Nature on June 14, 2021. The Speakers were- Shri Prakash Javadekar, Hon’ble Minister for Environment, Forest & Climate Change; Ms Joan MacNaughton, Chair, Climate Group; Dr Mukund Govind Rajan, Chairman, ECube Investment Advisors Private Limited and Ms Amla Ruia, Social Activist, Water Conservationist. The conclave was moderated by Ms Sonia Singh, Editorial Director, NDTV.
Sustainability with well-defined goals and targets must become a strategic priority for Every Industry Sector. An environmentally friendly business can also be profitable by decreasing the business’s negative impact on the environment.
This conclave was aimed at spreading awareness about issues related to the environment and to collectively work together for a better world.
“India’s contribution to climate change in the last 200 years is just three percent. The unbridled carbon emissions particularly by Europe, USA and in the last 40 years by China, caused climate change disasters. These countries prospered economically but polluted the world. India is one of the countries with the least contribution in climate change,” said Shri Prakash Javadekar, Hon’ble Minister for Environment, Forest & Climate Change.
He said that as soon as schools — shut due to the Covid pandemic — reopen, his ministry will initiate a nursery program in 5,000 schools. Under this program, students of classes six to eight will plant saplings and nurture them till they pass out from their schools.
Speaking at the conclave, FLO president Ujjwala Singhania said the FLO encourages its members’ enterprises to manage their triple bottom line – profits, people, and the planet. “There is an urgent need to formulate a development model which focuses on responsible and eco-friendly government policies that will promote sustainable use of natural resources,” she said. “The FLO this year has taken the pledge of planting over one lakh trees by our 18 chapters across India.
An impactful beginning to this initiative was made on World Environment Day, “she added.
Mr Mukund Govind Rajan, Chairman of ECube Investment Advisors Private Limited and Chair of the FICCI environment committee said that with global warming and climate change taking a toll on the planet, there is a need to focus more on preserving bio-diversity.
Ms Joan MacNaughton shared her inputs on the subject and said that the governments must actively work towards mitigating the issue climate change, which is a great challenge to our planet. “Businesses should operate in a responsible fashion,” she added.
Ms Amla Ruia appealed to everyone to join hands in the conservation of water. “I had no knowledge of how to go forward. If I can contribute towards this cause, so can everyone of you,” she said.
