FLO ANNUAL PROGRAMME FACE TO FACE WITH GOVERNMENT NEW DELHI:

FLO organized its annual event “Face to Face with Govt” and the distinguished panelist were Shri R Srikumar,IPS – Vigilance Commissioner, Shri Satyendra Garg,IPS- Joint Commissioner of Delhi Police-Traffic and Nitin R. Gokarn, IAS- Joint Secy ,Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.

Kavitha Varadaraj, FLO president while welcoming the Government officials, stated that it is important to bridge the communication gap between the civil society and the government for an improved redressal of issues and concerns. She added that the annual event of FLO ‘Face to Face with the Government’ is such a platform to take it forward.

Harjinder Kaur, Governing Body Member introduced the panelists and opened the forum for discussion.

Shri Srikumar highlighted on the importance of joint efforts by the government and the civil society in eliminating corruption from the society. He informed the audience about Project VIGEYE (Vigilance Eye) which is a citizen-centric initiative, wherein citizens join hands with the Central Vigilance Commission in fighting corruption in India. It is a platform which aims to make it easier for common citizens to report in corruption to the concerned authority through easier flow of information. He invited FICCI-FLO to jointly set up a KPO for handling grievances of women entrepreneurs.

Shri Satyendra Garg presented an audio-visual report on ‘Managing Traffic in Delhi-A Tough Task’ in terms of increasing number of vehicles in Delhi in comparison to other metro cities and also greater road length. He also emphasized that Delhi Traffic Police has come down heavenly on drunken driving which has resulted in considerable decline in road accidents. He also informed that the traffic department is largely connected to road users through Facebook, Twitter, 24 x 7 Helplines, SMS Alerts etc.

Shri Nitin R. Gokarn stated road safety is being related to all the subjects for Classes 8-12 as part of the CBSE syllabus. Stating that people tend to flout road rules with impunity, Gokarn said one reason was lack of enforcement. Explaining how speed could turn fatal, he said for a bike being driven at beyond 20 kmph the chance of an accident is high and in the case of a bike being driven at beyond 40 kmph, the risk of accident is exponential and beyond 80 kmph, fatality is certain.

It was followed by an enthusiastic and invigorating interactive session moderated by Ms Kiran Gera, past President-FLO.

Shri Satyendra Garg released a booklet on Road Safety jointly prepared by FLO and Delhi Traffic Police, as a ready reckoner for use by women in general.
