FLO Chennai Chairperson, Ms Divya Abhihek addressed a large gathering of 750 students in Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Chennai as part of Udyog 2024, an event focussed on urging students to work to become, and not just to acquire.
She spoke about empowering girls through financial literacy and career guidance.
Financial Literacy: She first spoke about financial literacy. Understanding how money works and how to manage it effectively is not just a skill; it’s a critical aspect of personal empowerment. Many young girls often lack the basic knowledge of budgeting, saving, and investing, which are essential for financial independence. Being financially literate, could help plan for their futures, pursue higher education without financial barriers, and even start their own businesses.
Career Guidance: Secondly, career guidance plays a pivotal role in shaping a girl’s future. In a rapidly evolving job market, it’s crucial that girls are exposed to diverse career options early on. Many may not realize the plethora of opportunities available to them in fields like STEM, entrepreneurship, arts, and beyond.
Through career counseling sessions, skill development workshops, and exposure to real-world experiences such as internships and industry visits, we can ignite their passion and equip them with the skills needed to excel in their chosen careers.
In conclusion, financial literacy and career guidance are not just about imparting knowledge; they are about fostering empowerment and unlocking potential. Each girl we empower today becomes a leader, a changemaker, and a role model for future generations.
Number of people impacted: Out of 750 attendees, 420 were women
