Field Trip to Sardar Patel Farm

Sardar Patel Farm, a certified 125 acre organic farm near Kathwada, is an idyllic place on the outskirts of Ahmedabad. The farm, conceptualized by Dr. Dinesh Patel, a physician by profession, is a glorious example of synergy between man and nature. Flo Ahmedabad had organized a field trip to this heaven on earth on 27th November. Here, we had the privilege to see for ourselves and understand how one can achieve a health cycle of healthy soil, healthy crops, healthy food and thus healthy life using the Bio-Dynamic processes.

For the last 11 years Dr. Patel, his family and staff have been striving hard, with great success, to enhance the soil quality by using only organic manure, fertilizers and pesticides and making the most of a giant unpaid work force; ants, bees, birds, earthworms and even snakes to create a conducive Eco-system. Their endeavour is also to produce fortified crops that increase our immunity and thus are extremely beneficial to us. Music is constantly played on loudspeakers for the benefit of all the flora and fauna, contributing greatly to their well being.

Dr. Patel patiently guided us through the different areas, showing us all the different and some unique species of plants that he has procured from all over the world. He explained to us his ideology and philosophy, thus enriching us in no small measure.

Our members were treated to a sumptuous spread including a lip smacking jamun juice. They also bought lots of organic grains, pulses, honey and a host of other products.
