FLO Chennai, under the leadership of Chairperson Dr. Divya Abhishek, and Legal Policy and Advocacy Vertical Head Ms. Subathra Mylsamy, participated in a panel discussion in Unimagine TN attended by around 4000 people. One significant challenge for startups is the lengthy patent approval process, which can be critical in fast-moving industries. Ms. Subathra Mylsamy emphasized the need for Indian innovators to strategically file patents in major jurisdictions where they foresee market entry. Leveraging international frameworks like the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) and tools such as the Patent Prosecution Highway (PPH) agreement, like the one between the Indian Patent Office and the Japan Patent Office, has significantly streamlined patent timelines, benefiting startups. Ethical AI and decentralized systems such as blockchain are also shaping the future of innovation.
