At FLO Kolkata’s last event – Dr. Subramanian Swamy Unplugged, we witnessed Dr. Swamy at his usual best. Outspoken. Witty. Bold. Humorous. Candid. He opted not to shroud his words in diplomacy. After a warm welcome by committee member, Sweta Nathany and a brief address by the Chairperson, Radhika Dalmia, Dr. Swamy was joined on the stage by Ms. Kaveree Bamzai, journalist & author, moderator for the event.
Dr. Swamy said, “The three most important portfolios for any government according to me, the first is defence, second finance, and third education, they are represented by Durga, Laxmi and Saraswati. This is the status women have in our society.”
The conversation had a number of lighter moments amid some serious and thought-provoking ones on India’s past and current political scenario, mythology, history, Hinduism, geopolitics, and role of women in Indian philosophy. Dr. Swamy sportingly answered questions from the audience too.
He left off with the thought, “Fear of the future is one that debilitates. Never be afraid of the future.” Vice Chairperson Nidhi Jhunjhunwala closed the event with vote of thanks. The event was attended by around 190 members.
