Creating a Safe Environment for Women

The FLO Chennai Chapter recently organised an impactful workshop at SRM University on the theme of “Creating a Safe Environment for Women,” with a focus on empowering women with practical tools and strategies to ensure their safety. The workshop featured Ms. Subathra Mylsamy, Head of the Legal Vertical at FLO Chennai, as the key speaker. Ms. Mylsamy emphasised that safety is not a privilege or a favour, but an inherent right that every woman deserves. She stressed the importance of women always having a safety plan, especially when navigating potentially vulnerable situations.

The workshop introduced several essential strategies for personal protection, including the use of safety tools and self-defence techniques. The participants were encouraged to adopt a buddy system, which promotes mutual vigilance and support among women, creating an environment where they look out for one another. By equipping the participants with knowledge and practical tips, the session aimed to instill confidence and awareness, reinforcing that safety should be proactively managed.

The interactive event was well-received by the students and faculty of SRM University, reflecting FLO Chennai’s ongoing commitment to empowering women through awareness and education, particularly in the realm of personal and legal safety.
