On Sunday, November 18, 2018, FICCI FLO North-East celebrated Children’s Day with the children at the Garbage Dumping Area of West Boragaon in Guwahati. An NGO, CareU365 run by a group of dedicated youth, lead by Bhrigu Barthakur, runs an Activity Centre where the children of the area, comprising mainly of ragpickers, are taught Art every Sunday. Almost eighty children of varying ages attend the class. FICCI FLO North-East, under its Chairperson Sarita Sikaria, joined CareU365 in organizing a drawing competition for the children.
Prizes were also distributed. The children very actively gave small performances of poetry recitation, singing and dancing, for which too they were rewarded. FICCI FLO North-East distributed eatables among the children, gave a stock of stationery and craft material so that the classes can be conducted more effectively and the children can get more opportunities, and also contributed the prizes – all with the generous support of members. A large dustbin was also given to make the children aware of cleanliness. Besides Sarita Sikaria, Saroj Khemka – Past-Chairperson, Srutimala Duara – Vice Chairperson, Rashmi Manchanda – Jt. Secretary, Swati Saraf – Jt. Treasurer, Bela Nawka, Uma Deorah, Niru Kabra and Timu Saraogi, represented FLO at the event.
