FLO Jaipur organised Women Achievers Awards and Change of Guards Ceremony. The MLA of Sawai Madhopur and the brand ambassador of the State Government for saving the girl child, Princess Diya Kumari, was the guest of honour for the event. Ms. Neeta Boochra, Immediate Past President was the special guest for the event .
The Princess made a fervent appeal for protecting the girl child. She categorically stated that the educated people as well as those living in urban areas were more responsible for the gender bias in the society. And this was a disturbing trend.
The key note speaker for the evening, the well known writer, Ratna Vira spoke about the women related issues narrated in her novel “Daughter by Court Order” She poignantly relived her own unhappy memories as a girl child where she suffered from gender bias. This gave her the strength to write about a protagonist in the novel where she comes out triumphant against the many odds.
The women achievers were recognized for their contribution to society in different fields. Anjana Sukhani (Performance in Cinema); Dharmendra Kanwar (All Rounder Performance); Pratibha Patel (Ratna Rajasthan Award);Smita Bansal (Performance in Television); Gulabo Sapera (Promotion of Dance) and Manisha Gulyani (Classical Dance). On the occasion, three women from Sawai Madhopur won the awards for their work at the grassroot level – Dr. Bina Choudhary, Meena Sharma and Sunita Verma.
This was followed by the Change of Guard. Present Chairperson of the FLO Jaipur Chapter, Ms. Apra Kuchhal handed over the baton to Ms. Alka Batra, who will be the next Chairperson of the FLO Jaipur Chapter.
