A letter of understanding was signed between FLO Pune Chapter and IGP Sunil Ramanand to start a project to plant trees in the Jails and develop a green patch across Maharashtra beginning with Yerwada Jail in Pune. Further to this the women can be skilled in various trades.
FLO Pune Collaborated with Tree Public to plan 200 trees inside the jail to further create Oxygen hubs for the city of Pune. This project is funded from the fund received from the Marathon 2019 and will be inaugurated soon.
Another project from the funds of the marathon and within the jail in collaboration with The Eco Factory Foundation is to skill inmates.
These projects include manufacturing of smokeless charcoal from garden waster, nursery management and development, manufacturing of cow dung based products such as cow dung pots, bricks formulation of natural pesticides, insecticides and many more. This will then open numerous opportunities for income generation and allow women to venture into a business when they will complete their tenure of imprisonment. The project is being inaugurated on 27th January 2020.
