FLO partnered with the World Bank Group for an exclusive workshop for its members, under the leadership of National President Ujjwala Singhania.
The World Bank Group is a unique global partnership with five institutions for sustainable solutions that reduce poverty and build shared prosperity in developing countries. It has 189 member countries, staff from more than 170 countries and offices in over 130 countries.
India is one of the largest countries of operations for World Bank. From Education, rural development, health, water and sanitation to construction of highways and dams, Work Bank Group has been funding Government of India and various state governments in the form of grants and loans.
The main aim of the workshop was to increase the participation of women-owned businesses in World Bank financed Projects. The objectives of this workshop were to make the members awar of the potential Indian bidders of the business potential in World Bank financed Projects primarily in India but also in other countries and also build FLO members’ capacity in submission of responsive bids if they wish to participate in World Bank funded tenders.
The speakers were Mr. Junaid Kamal Ahmad, Country Director, World Bank, India; Ms. Elmas Arisoy, Manager (Procurement), South Asia, World Bank, Washington DC ; Ms. Priti Jain, Senior Procurement Specialist, World Bank and Ms. Swayamsiddha Mohanty, Senior Procurement Specialist, World Bank.
The workshop helped the members to gain an understanding of how the World Bank procures and how women entrepreneurs can avail the opportunities to bid in the World Bank funded projects.
