Today’s youngsters are tomorrow’s responsible citizens.
Keeping this in mind Agriculture Initiative team headed by Ms.Radharani, with the guidance and vision of our Chairperson Ms.Sona Chatwani, has taken up teaching students in making Seed Balls which can be grown into trees in barren fields, and even in and around our dwelling areas.
For this, we have chosen Oxford Grammar School, run by our member Ms. Prashanthi Sekhar.
We have identified native seeds like Neem, Tamarind, Soap nut, and bamboo which can thrive without much pest infestations. Students were taught the importance of Afforestation, and how these seed balls will be beneficial in creating a positive environment.
Then students were shown the right mixture of sand, soil, and compost to preserve the seed and how they can grow in right conditions like Monsoon season. A massive drive of making 30,000 seed balls is taken up by 2,000 students and by our other member Ms. Neha Singh.
All this is preparatory work culminating on August 7th as Green drive.
Five more schools have been invited to this Green drive, to see, observe and hopefully to take up either plantation or seeds distribution. The teachers and students from New Paramount High school, Singh Rishi Public school, Vandematharam High School, St Florence High School, Hanuman Vyamshala have promised they will continue the chain of the green movement.
It is a real pleasure seeing these students also making various projects in reusing , recycling old items into green initiative.Snacks an pencil boxes were distributed to all the students from Oxford Grammar School which hosted along with visiting students and teachers.
Ms. Prashanthi and her team of well-trained teaches have created a very festive feeling to the event.
Ms. Neha Singh, has taken up this activity at her Factory, using her manpower, she has also collected lot of seeds. Ms. Sujitha, another member contributed Tamarind seeds.
Ms. Manjula Reddy our Mentor, has addressed the students and motivated them to plant one plant each on their birthdays, and later their Grandparents birthdays.
Our chapter has distributed these Seed balls free of cost during our Flagship initiative Style Tatva, on 10th and 11 August, 2019.
