Aari Embroidery Training Program

FLO Chennai, led by Ms. Jyothi Thomas, the Vertical Head of IMPACT – Rural Entrepreneurship & Livelihoods, has launched a 2.5-month Aari Embroidery Training Program at the Arpanam Center, Perumbakkam, Chennai. The initiative, in collaboration with Suvekan (Slum Clearance Board) and supported by the Community Development Officer (CDO), focuses on providing 22 women participants from the area of Perumbakkam with specialised training in Aari Embroidery, a traditional craft skill that opens doors to economic independence and creative opportunities.

The program, which runs from September 19th, 2024, to November 7th, 2024, includes daily sessions of three hours each, five days a week, with a total training duration of 90 to 120 hours. This skill development initiative is designed not only to preserve traditional arts but also to offer these women a sustainable livelihood option. By the end of the training, the participants will be equipped to produce handcrafted goods, catering to local markets and beyond, creating a pathway for financial empowerment.

Sponsored by Sanmar, this program is a continuation of FLO Chennai’s commitment to enhancing rural entrepreneurship and livelihoods, fostering a culture of self-reliance, and creating long-term economic impact for marginalised communities.
