A Tete a Tete with Rajashree Birla

Mrs. Rajashree Birla met with YFLO members in Kolkata on the 2nd of August at Park Plaza Hotel. The event was sponsored by Indian Gem and Jewelry. Rajashreeji shared her experiences about Corporate Social Responsibility and explained the many roles she has played in her life. She educated members on the structure of the FICCI Aditya Birla Center for CSR and explained in perfect detail the process, implementation and strategy of the center.

Mrs. Birla discussed how we can each contribute to building a better society in our own way. She mentioned how we can engage in changing the lives of underprivileged by starting in small ways through our own circle of influence i.e. your own home. Then we can slowly broaden the spectrum to include our organizations. An example Mrs. Birla gave was of ensuring that the families of our staff are well educated. Even if we are able to reach out to just four individuals, it can have a major ripple effect.

One of Mrs. Birla’s most important achievements is her Polio Immunization program where they are working on immunizing as many as 18 million children from polio. She also talked about her work with Habitat for Humanity where they are building homes for the homeless. Mrs. Birla’s goal is to build 100,000 houses in India by 2014. Her most recent work involves helping victims of the Uttarakhand floods.

Members were truly amazed to hear about Mrs. Birla’s achievements and her ability to play the role of wife, daughter-in-law, mother, and businesswoman so beautifully. They were inspired and had a lot to learn from her characteristics that have made a difference to the lives of millions of people.
