The need to be legally educated is pertinent to the woman of today. In the past no one really questioned lawmakers, but of late, society has begun to question most legal activities as to their effectiveness and competence. Our seminar called ‘Women and law’ defined the legal rules for women anywhere near marriage.
Our panelists for this discussion included, Advocate Ms Maitrayee Trivedi Dasgupta, a young and sharp lawyer, nominated to represent India as an ‘Opinion Leader’ in the US convention on Judicial Processes; Advocate Ms Radhika Singh, a gold medallist from the University of Pune and the receiver of the Radhabai Govind award, she expertises in company and property law; and Advocate Mr Dheeraj Trivedi, a hard-core law practitioner, who has been dealing closely with women sensitive issues for over a decade, to provide an inclusive approach to the subject. It was a grilling 2 hours with all the legal paraphernalia that was thrown in, with the audience completely awakened by the end of the session! Like they say, ‘know your rights, so you know what is wrong!’ The program sponsors were Tata Steel.
