FICCI Ladies Organisation organised a very interesting Informational Interactive Session on Women’s Health –“A Different Wealth” to discuss various health issues faced by women, primarily post 40 years.
The panelists were –Dr Ambrish Mithal, Padma Bhushan, Chairman and Head of Endocrinology & Diabetes at Medanta and Dr Sanjay Sachdeva, Director ENT, Max Hospital.
The interactive session was organized with the aim to reinforce the awareness about living a healthy lifestyle and the essential changes and choices in our daily lives which can be critical in determining our health and lifespan, especially after the age of 40. Various misconceptions and myths related to menopause, bone health, sleep disorders & general lifestyle was simplified during the session.
In her welcome address, FLO President, Vinita Bimbhet said, “The age post 40 years is very critical for women as this this is the time when the bodies start rebelling against the will. The interactive session is aimed at introspecting on the lives and lifestyle, which has become a vortex of hectic routines, sedentary ways, high level of stress besides other environmental factors.”
Talking about various gynaecological disorders faced by women, Dr Ambrish Mithal said that “Menopausal symptoms affect most women due to the changing hormone levels, particularly estrogen, but many factors such as diet and exercise, lifestyle and other medication can influence the symptoms.” He spoke on Hot flashes, night sweats, Vaginal dryness, Sleep problems and Depression and also suggested certain steps that can be taken on the own to reduce symptoms of menopause.
Dr Sanjay Sachdeva spoke on the symptoms, causes and plausible solutions for Snoring and sleep apnea. He said,“One third of the population suffers from snoring, causing discomfort not only to themselves but also to others. The medical condition that induces snoring, Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome (OSAS) needs to be medically treated by identifying the actual cause of this ailment. AN ENT expert can help in the diagnosis and subsequent treatment.”
