The FLO Hyderabad Centre of Excellence for Training Women in Modern Vegetable Farming hosted a successful Crop Showcase in Ravalkole Village, Medchal on November 8th, 2024.
This marks a significant step in its initiative to empower 100 women farmers from 16 villages. This collaboration with the East-West Seed Knowledge Transfer Foundation aims to equip women with essential skills in commercial vegetable farming, entrepreneurship, and sustainability.
Priya Gazdar, Chairperson, FLO Hyderabad, highlighted the project’s transformative impact on women’s confidence and economic agency, and GC Shivakumar, Country General Manager of East-West Seed India. The Resilient Roots project is led by EC Head UVL Ananda and supported by Samta Dharewa.
Women learned advanced agricultural techniques, digital and financial literacy, and market strategies. The Crop Showcase featured a variety of vegetables and flowers chosen for their market potential and sustainability. The event was attended by key figures including Agripreneur Eatala Kshamita Reddy, FLO Hyderabad Initiative Mentor CA Shubhraa Maheshwari, FLO Past Chairperson Manjula Reddy, and senior members from FLO.
Key highlights:
1. Training & Skills Development: Women farmers with small holdings are being trained in modern farming practices, digital and financial literacy, market strategies, and entrepreneurship through a ‘train-the-trainer model. The knowledge transfer is being done by Dutch MNC East-West Seed’s Knowledge Transfer Foundation at their Research Centre in Hyderabad.
2. Showcased Crops: Featured vegetables and flowers such as bottle gourd, bitter gourd, ridge gourd, okra, sweet corn, cauliflower, and marigold, selected for market value and sustainability.
