FICCI Ladies Organisation (FLO) in its bid to boost country’s handwoven heritage and in line with the Prime Ministers “Make in India” initiative, organised an interactive session on ‘Make in India: Handmade in India’ on July 27, 2016 at Federation House, New Delhi.
The Handloom and handicraft sector accentuates the country’s unique cultural mosaic; rich heritage and the economic potential by strengthen livelihoods in a sustainable manner. The session aimed at empowering with the right knowledge and the way forward towards harnessing the potential of these sectors.
Mr Amitabh Kant , CEO, NITI Aayog, who after ‘Make in India’ has proposed the ‘Handmade in India’ campaign was the Chief Guest at the interactive Meet and renowned fashion designer Sabaysachi Mukherjee was the Guest of Honour at the interactive session.
Dr Didar Singh, Secretary General, FICCI also addressed the session.
“After the government’s successful ‘Make in India’ campaign planning commissions proposed ‘Handmade in India’ campaign will help in reviving the country’s handwoven heritage and leverage synergy between handlooms, handicrafts, khadi and village industries and play a bigger role in global markets.”, said Ms Vinita Bimbhet, President, FICCI Ladies Organisation (FLO).
“Handlooms and handmade textile products is a sub-sector which has achieved its recognition and glory in the internal arena. Harnessing of skills, design intervention, and access to credit will play a big role in forging the global luxury industry ahead. This is the only sector that offers the promise and potential to preserve and promote India’s cultural identity. With more active promotion, additional financing and tax breaks for the handloom industry, India could provide the finest hand makers of the world.” added Ms Bimbhet.
Major highlight of the interactive session was the recognition of women achievers from Indian fashion industry who have been rallying behind the cause of handmade textiles. These achievers were eminent designer Asma Hussain for skilling India and reviving crafts of Awadh, Designer Choti Tekam from Madhya Pradesh for reviving the tribal art and Anavila Misra for innovative designs, for creating the popular linen sarees for creating the popular linen sarees.
