FICCI Ladies Organisation (FLO) organised a very interesting session with Arunima Sinha, the first female amputee to climb Mount Everest on August 23, 2016 at FICCI, New Delhi. The session was very aptly titled “Stories That Matter.”
Arunima Sinha is world’s first female amputee climb to Mt. Everest. She is also the first female amputee to summit Mt. Kilimanjaro, Mt. Elbrus, Mt. Kosciusko Mt. Carstensz Pyramid, Mt. Aconcagua and Mt. McKinley, Antarctica.
She has been conferred with several awards such as Padamshree, Tenzing Norgay Awards, Yash Bharti, Salaam India Award, Times Now Amazing India Award amongst others.
Believing in the adage ‘where there’s a will there’s a way’, Arunima Sinha made the impossible possible and became the first female amputee to summit the Mount Everest. She made India proud by hoisting the country’s flag at the highest mountain peak.
Reminiscing her journey to the Everest, Arunima said that all around she witnessed deaths which at times left her discouraged. But then following the mantra ‘No pain, no gain’, she kept moving ahead and finally reached her ultimate goal.
Arunima said that every person has his/her own ‘Everest’ and they need to find a way to climb it. But the underlying principle in any tough situation is to realize that you have the power to win against all odds. Every person is surrounded by hardships but it can be overcome by understanding the problem and then resolving it by putting your heart and mind to it.
Arumima is a motivational Speaker, who delivers inspirational talk in various multinational firms in India and Abroad and has interacted with more than 3 lakh audience till now.
She is setting up a sports academy named Saheed Chandra Shekhar Azad Viklang Khel Academy and Prosthetic Limb Centre Society in Unnao (UP).Her autobiography is titled ‘Born Again on the Mountain’) in published various languages. The English version was launched by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji.
She is the Brand Ambassador of Karnataka government – sports and adventure department and Swach Bharat Abhiyan (UP).
In her welcome address, FLO President, Vinita Bimbhet said , “Arunima Sinha is a woman of substance, who has truly scripted her own destiny and reached the zenith of success and has proved time and again that there is no limit to human achievements.”
She added, “In honour of her phenomenal accomplishment, FLO is privileged to felicitate her. A fearless women, an icon of inspiration – she is a winner in the journey of life. FLO salutes her and celebrates her for all that she has achieved and all that she out to achieve in her glorious journey as a woman of great substance.”
A cheque of Rs 3, 00,000/- was given to Arunima Foundation by Past President, Abha Dalmia.
