YFLO Hyderabad Chairperson, Ms. Ashita Nawalgaria invited Mrs. Swathi Kantamani , Head of CSR with NATCO Trust to educate the children of Sancta Maria International School on a go green initiative and to educate our future generations to be mindful and sensitive to the natural environment in our daily lives.
Mrs. Swathi began the event by playing a small interaction game of “Simon says” with the children to engage their attention. She then showed them a 7 minute video on “Planting Hope” which was made by Nobel Peace Price winner Ms. Wangari Muta Maathai.
Wangari Muta Mathai was a Kenyan environmental and political activist. In the 1970s, Maathai founded the Green Belt Movement, an environmental non-governmental organization focused on the planting of trees, environmental conservation, and women’s rights. In 2004, she became the first African woman to receive the Nobel Peace Prize for “her contribution to sustainable development, democracy and peace”.
Mrs. Swathi also emphasized to the children that just like how one individual like Wangari Mathai made such a difference to our environment and the people of her country with one idea, similarly so can we by planting a tree. The children from 10th and 11th grade presented a beautiful and very well conceptualized play on saving trees which was hugely applauded by our members. The speaker, members and the children proceeded very enthusiastically to plant saplings.
The event was well attended by members and the children and they all enjoyed the simplicity and the honest thought behind the event.
