FLO Northeast Chapter organized its Change of Guard Ceremony on April 26, 2013 at Guwahati Gymkhana Club.
Queen Oja, Chapter Chairperson 2012-13 passed on the baton to Monisha Baruwa, who took over as the Chairperson of NE Chapter for the year 2013-14.
Mr Shiv Keshavan, first Indian representative to compete in Luge at the Winter Olympic Games, was the Chief Guest. He was accompanied by his spouse, Namita. He set a new Asian speed record at 134.3 kmph after beating previous record of 131.9 kmph and won gold medal in Asia Cup 2011 at Nagano in Japan.
The event began with an invocation of Saraswati Vandana by FLO NE member, Uma Deorah.
In her welcome address, Queen Oja thanked the Chief Guest for his presence and also expressed her sincere gratitude to the members for their constant support during her tenure.
Mr. Keshavan shared his journey to the Winter Olympics as a Luger. He added that though Luge is a thrilling and dangerous sport, it helped to carve a niche for himself in the sports arena as also bring Luge to the forefront as a sport.
Taking up the mantle as the Chairperson, Monisha Baruwa pledged to carry forward the good work done by her predecessors and thanked them for their guidance and support. She also emphasized on the importance of a fervent membership drive to strengthen the NE chapter. She also expressed her agenda to spread the wings of NE chapter to the neighboring states in the region.
The new team for the year 2013-14 was introduced to the floor. The event, conducted by FLO NE member Meghali Das, concluded with vote of thanks by Vice Chairperson Smita Agarwal.
