INDIAN ART – DEMYSTIFIED A Walk Through the New Wing of the NGMA with Professor Rajeev Lochan National Gallery of Modern Art Delhi, September 15th, 2010

On 15th September 2010, Members of Yflo and Flo Delhi, gathered together at the National Gallery of Modern Art, the premier art institution of our country, which houses over 17,000 masterpieces of Indian Art. There was a huge buzz and excitement as unlike the usual talks on art, we were actually going to be walked through the timeless treasures of the NGMA art collection, by the Director of the Gallery himself, Professor Rajiv Lochan.

Professor Lochan, an artist of great repute and an art educationist, shared his knowledge and passion on the subject of Indian Art down the ages. He walked us through the various styles and discussed the many methods and mediums used. He talked about how art has always been a reflection of society and how it is continuously changing as society is evolving. He shared anecdotes about many famous artists like Tagore and Amrita Shergill, and really brought the subject alive.

Professor Lochan gave us a deeper insight into our own traditional art forms and instilled a great sense of pride in our own heritage and culture. His enthusiasm was contagious and sparked of a lot of interest and questions amongst the ladies present.

The event was very well attended and a huge success, with members asking for a follow up session, to go even deeper into the fascinating world of Indian Art.
