FICCI Ladies Organisation, Chennai Chapter conducted the much needed Lung Screening Camp at Chinandikuppam , a fishermen’s hamlet on East Coast Road. A mobile van carrying all the necessary testing equipment was brought to the village from which each of the patients were tested. 30% of the world’s Tuberculosis patients are in India, which infamously tops the world chart in Tuberculosis ( TB ). Every one second one person is getting infected in India and every one and a half minute one person dies due to TB in India. Tuberculosis bacilli spreads ‘in the air’ and can infect any one – the rich, the poor, the young or old. It was therefore felt necessary to conduct such a camp.
The following are the details of the day long Camp :
No. of people screened : 73
No. of normal X rays : 61
No. of abnormal X rays : 10
No. of illegible X rays : 2
Percentage of abnormal X rays : 13.7 %
Follow up treatment for the ailing persons was advised by Huma Shasun TB Care Project Director, Dr. Hisamuddin Papa and were assured that TB is 100% curable if the full course of medicine is taken.
After the FLO ladies had a chance to view the Camp they then proceeded for brunch at Ms.Parveen Papa’s residence and also view the documentary ‘In The Air ‘, about some stark realities on Tubercolosis and the need to fight it.
