The afternoon was a powerful one due to the presence of 2 strong and successful personalities, SHAINA NC and ALKA YAGNIK, both power houses in their own capacities and profession. Shaina NC is a hugely popular fashion designer, politician, and social worker. Ms Yagnik is one of the most successful playback singers. She is noted in Hindi cinema with a career spanning over three decades.
The lighting of the lamp marked the beginning of an enlightening and entertaining afternoon with our dear members. Our Chairperson, Ms Anupama Sureka welcomed Ms Shaina NC and Ms Yagnik which was followed by a discussion session conducted by Ms Oindrilla Dutt among Shaina NC, Alka Yagnik and Ms Sureka.
Shaina was asked about her journey as the national spokesperson for the BJP, member of the national executive council of BJP, and treasurer of the BJP’s Maharashtra unit, her take on women in politics, balancing the dichotomy between the world of fashion and her political life and her ineterst in the Womens Reservation Bill. Shaina answered every question in detail with intellect and each of her answers reflected her passion for whatever she has achieved in life and her love for her family.
Ms Yagnik’s musical journey started from our own city, Kolkata. She was loved and supported by her family and later hugely respected by the nation for her talent. Her answers to Ms Dutt’s queries showed her simple approach of dedication and discipline towards achieving one’s goal in life. Alkaji sang few lines from 2 of her very beautiful songs and enthralled the audience.
The afternoon was a rendezvous of melody and ethics and hence was rightfully named as a ‘sangam of sur aur neeti’. The audience was in rapt attention throughout the programme. They asked questions to Shaina which she answered stressing on the fact that for a woman it is crucial to have financial independence and be focussed, the importance of learnings from failures and working seriously and responsibly. She also asserted on always being aware of social causes and working towards bettering quality of life. Alka in her answers to question from audience explained the pros and cons of the recently prevalent reality shows.
