Saree Swagathon: Celebrating Tradition, Empowerment, and Sustainability

Under the leadership of Chairperson Ms. Shradha Murarka, FLO Kolkata organized the “Saree Swagathon: Celebrating Tradition, Empowerment, and Sustainability”, a walkathon that showcases the saree as a symbol of India’s cultural legacy, sustainability, and empowerment. This unique event, part of the National Saree Initiative and in honour of World Saree Day, highlighted India’s timeless heritage, saree’s elegance, and versatility while making meaningful discussions around sustainability and women’s empowerment.

The walkathon featured enthusiastic participants draped in sarees paired with sneakers, embodying a perfect balance between tradition and contemporary style. Distinguished guests, including Ms. Dona Ganguly and Ms. Sanaya Mehta Vyas, graced the event, lending their voices to the cause of women’s empowerment and celebrating the saree.

The event also hosted engaging discussions by prominent speakers. Ms. Rashmi Choudhary, founder of Sari Ki Almari, emphasized creative styling and modern adaptations of sarees to keep them relevant in today’s fashion landscape. Meanwhile, Ms. Sarika Ginodia and Ms. Sarita Ganeriwal of Karomi Crafts shared their inspiring journey of supporting the weaver community and promoting handloom sarees as sustainable fashion choices.

The highlight of the event was the #MeriTimelessSari awards, where participants were recognized for their creativity, style, and spirit. FLO Kolkata’s celebration was a step forward in elevating the saree as a modern-day style icon while honouring its deep-rooted significance in India’s heritage.
