Sonali Bendre presented a talk on “Materialism and Success”

Sonali Bendre – Speaker
Guest of Honor – Rani Vidya Deviji

On the occasion she said :

“In a materialistic world, values are replaced by tangibles -There was a time, praise, appreciation, kindness, goodness were note -worthy and today its all about the house, the car, the phone, the hand-bag the lifestyle .

Kids these days boast about their new PS3’s or the latest automobile their family purchased, which only goes to show that our concept of success is largely based on our materialistic worth Many argue that materialism acts as encouragement to strive for success however I fail to agree Success to me is being the best person you can be and achieving everything you strive for. I do think a rise in materialism has resulted in a skewed concept of success -Because of the exploited visibility of people living the “high life”, people no longer view mere self-sufficiency or even financial security as success. Indian youth today are living the materialist dream -where beauty and money matter – they care only about what other people think of them-constantly trying to be what they think other people want them to be. They take their values from fashionable pop culture trends, and they live their lives learning mostly from their mistakes”

She concluded by saying -“Happiness is no longer a measure of success – material goods are used as a measuring stick for greatness”
